Thirty eight former members of Lima Company Group, 42 Commando Royal Marines as well as four others having connections with Lima Company, plus a widow, recount 166 recollections of their war in the Falklands 1982.
In Their Own Words tells the story in sequence, from leaving Plymouth, the journey south, the landings, the battle for survival and the battle for MT Harriet, and for some the ongoing battle with PTSD.
As you can imagine interlaced throughout the book, never far from the top, is the humour and comradeship which all Royal Marines, past and present, will identify with.
The book is for sale at £20 and proceeds benefit the Royal Marines Historical Society (well worth joining!). Copies are not available in shops or online, they can only be purchased direct from the author, Tony Sickelmore, and his kitchen table distribution centre!
