Royal Marines in Tanganyika. 25 January 1964,
Dar-es-Salaam.
Royal Marines of 45 Commando were disembarked from HMS Centaur at the request of the Tanganyikan government to deal with a revolt among army units.

At the main Army barracks in Dar-es-Salaam, a Commando disarms one of the mutineers

The person disarming the mutineer is me, then Lieutenant Ian Martin RM. It followed a coup de main helicopter landing onto the barracks' sports field and a rapid tactical advance by my troop to take control of the guardroom and, more importantly, the armoury immediately behind it. The lead section was commanded by Corporal Dorling. No casualties. The askaris surrendered and we disarmed them (the marines who covered us during this phase are not shown in the photo).
More details in Lt Col Paddy Stevens' RMHS publication 'The Long Summer' and David Young's book '45'.
